This is Te Puia's daytime pairing: the 90-minute Te Rā guided walk through the geothermal valley, plus the cultural performance in the carved meeting house that the standard day ticket leaves out.
The walk takes in Pōhutu Geyser, the Kiwi Conservation Centre and the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute, where carvers and weavers train. The kaiārahi (guides) are the point of it — the ancestral stories and the working-reserve context are what separate this from wandering the boardwalks alone.
The performance in Te Aronui a Rua covers pōhiri, waiata, mōteatea, poi and haka. There is no hāngī on this one — it is the option for visitors whose evening is already booked, or who want the culture and the geothermal valley in daylight.
